Abel Groenewold heeft in 2010 de Klassieke Academie Groningen afgerond. Na 40 jaar schilderen en tekenen o.a. als bouwkundige en architect, maakte hij een carrière switch. Hij probeert in zijn schilderijen de sfeer van het moment vast te leggen. Ruimtelijkheid speelt een grote rol. Hij maakt gebruik van veel snelle schetsen die van invloed zijn op de uiteindelijke compositie.
Het centrale motief is een bloemrijke tak van appelbloesem, uitvergroot en prominent geplaatst. De tak is sterk aanwezig in het midden, maar loopt organisch over het paneel, waardoor de kijker het leven en de groei bijna kan voelen. Hij varieert scherpe en vervaagde delen.
Dit werk ademt voorjaar: breekbaar, maar tegelijk krachtig, het barst van nieuw leven. Groenewold probeert met deze stillevens “de werkelijkheid een ietsje intenser te maken” – en dat resultaat is voelbaar in de zachte bloesems, de rust van compositie en de harmonieuze kleuren. Een bijzonder decoratief werk.
Abel Groenewold graduated from the Classical Academy Groningen in 2010. After 40 years of painting and drawing, including as a construction engineer and architect, he made a career switch. He tries to capture the atmosphere of the moment in his paintings. Spatiality plays a major role. He uses many quick sketches that influence the final composition.
The central motif is a flowery branch of apple blossom, enlarged and prominently placed. The branch is strongly present in the middle, but runs organically across the panel, allowing the viewer to almost feel the life and growth. It varies sharp and faded parts. This work breathes spring: fragile, but at the same time powerful, bursting with new life. With these still life, Groenewold tries to “make reality a little more intense” – and that result is palpable in the soft blossoms, the tranquility of the composition and the harmonious colours. A particularly decorative work.
